April 2007. April Fool's Day. A day of lighthearted fun shattered by tragedy.
A group of people was out
wading in the Arkansas River in my hometown.
An eleven year old girl was pulled under by a strong current.
Justin
Paul Witt, 17, and Drew Griffin, 16, dove in after her.
They saved her.
But they were pulled under themselves.
Mark
Manning, 45, attempted to save them.
Justin, Drew, and Mark all drowned.
The girl survived.
She was Justin's
friend's little sister.
Justin was my little sister's friend.
She is still heartbroken
